Iridology

Iridology
Eyes are often referred to as the "Windows of the Soul," but did you know they can also provide insight into your overall health? Iridology is the study of the iris, the coloured part of the eye, which is believed to reveal information about a person's physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

History of Iridology

The roots of this practice can be traced back to ancient civilisations such as the Egyptians and the Greeks, who recognised the connection between the eyes and the body's overall health. However, it was not until the 19th century that iridology began to gain wider recognition as a valid form of alternative medicine. The German physician, Ignaz von Peczely, is often credited as the father of iridology, as he observed changes in the iris of a patient with a broken leg, which he then associated with various health conditions. Since then, iridology has been further developed and refined by practitioners around the world, and today it is recognised as a valuable tool for both preventative healthcare.

What is Iridology and How Does it Work?

Iridology is a non-invasive and painless method of health analysis that involves examining the markings, colours, and textures of the iris and pupil. The process is based on the theory that changes in the iris may indicate nurture points, strengths, and where the body’s vibrational energy may be reduced in various organs and body systems. The markings on the iris are like a map, revealing physiological conditions and areas of nurture. It recognizes that various systems and organs are interconnected, and imbalances in one area can manifest as signs or markings in the iris.

Through this non-invasive assessment, iridologists can gain valuable insights that may not be readily apparent through traditional medical examinations. By identifying potential imbalances or weaknesses early on, individuals can take proactive steps to address these issues and maintain optimal health.

Whether you're seeking a complementary approach to your healthcare routine or simply curious about the insights iridology can provide, exploring this field can be a valuable investment in your overall well-being.

How Can an Iridologist Interpret the Markings and Colors on the Iris Chart?

Iridologists interpret the markings and colours on the iris chart using a comprehensive system of analysis that takes into account the location, size, and shape of the markings. They also consider the overall health and wellness of the client and any specific symptoms or concerns they may have. An iridologist's trained eye can detect subtle shifts in the iris that may point to imbalances in the body.

What are the benefits of Iridology?

The benefits of iridology are numerous. It can:
  • Reveal basic constitutional strength
  • Identify areas of potential inflammation
  • Identify propensity for poor elimination
  • Identify propensity for over acidity (which can lead for example to pre-arthritic conditions)
  • Identify areas of the body that may explain underlying causes of symptoms
  • Reveal propensity for adverse tissue change or reduced function in the body before it manifests into bigger issues
  • Identify inherited propensity for lowered vitality
  • Reveal propensity for an increased need for particular nutrients, and hence propensity for vitamin and mineral deficiencies
  • Identify whether a client has a propensity to be impacted by stress
Iridologists believe that it is possible to see healing in the iris, making it a very encouraging tool for those on a health improvement program.

What to expect from an Iridology session?

An initial iridology consultation takes around 1hr.
The practitioner may attain a detailed medical history, dietary and lifestyle check-up and take your iris photos with a special DSLR macro lens camera. Signs and marks that are seen in the photography of your iris are then extensively interpreted using an Iridology Chart where they will discuss what each sign in your iris indicates and what it means in terms of your health and presenting symptoms.

Following from here they will discuss what the best treatment options are to address any issues which may be present for you. A tailor treatment plan will be given to you including diet and supplement advice as well as emotional and spiritual guidance.
You’ll hopefully leave your consultation session feeling empowered and connected to a deeper understanding of your health and emotions.

Based on this information you are given tailored recommendations for diet, lifestyle and supplementation (the iridologist will need to be accredited in naturopathy or nutrition to prescribe supplements) to benefit your entire wellbeing

Iridology as a Diagnostic Tool in Naturopathic Practice

Iridology is often integrated into naturopathic practice as a diagnostic tool to complement other assessment methods. During a full naturopath consultation, iridology may assist practitioners in tailoring the best treatment plan based on the patient's iris type. By interpreting iridology findings within the broader context of the patient's health history and presentation, naturopaths can identify underlying imbalances, track progress, and guide treatment recommendations effectively.

How to find an Iridologist?

It can be quite difficult to find an iridologist, there are a few websites and associations that can help:

Typically the cost for an initial consultation and full iridology report can range from $140 to $240.
