Anxiety is on the rise, with over 2 million Australians experiencing symptoms in a 12 month period, it has become the most common mental health condition in Australia. I would say that statistic is probably a lot larger, because these only come from reported cases and a lot of people don’t necessarily go to a GP to address it.
While medication and talk therapy are powerful tools for managing anxiety, they don't always provide a complete solution for everyone.
Medications often come with side effects, and their effectiveness can vary depending on the severity and type of anxiety.
Talk therapy, while excellent for addressing thought patterns and behaviors, may not always delve into the root causes of anxiety, which can sometimes be physical, energetic or spiritual
Kinesiology offers a holistic approach, focusing on the mind-body connection to identify and address these underlying issues, leading to a more sustainable path to managing anxiety.
Anxiety is your body’s natural response to stress. It’s a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. It’s quite natural when you may have situations like speaking in front of a group, starting something new, perhaps going on a date, or an interview, all of these can cause most people to feel a little fearful and nervous.
However, in general, our anxiety levels are increasing due to a world that feels a little overwhelming and unpredictable. With the rise of technology, the amount of information we receive has risen stratospherically, yet our cognitive capacity hasn’t increased, on top of that we have constant rolling news headlines that can promote a sense of fear, as well as the rise of social media, and a pace of life that is going quicker than ever before.
And it’s not only the world around us that creates feelings of anxiousness, but the pressure we place on ourselves and the thoughts we think. Our brain has a natural negative bias that projects into the future to worry about all the what if’s. This is where the fear and overwhelm come in as it is wired for survival and wants to keep you safe, so it loves to think of all the ways life can go wrong.
To contribute even further to that, most of our fears and beliefs are tied up in our past experiences and sit in the subconscious to make up a huge 95% of the mind, when these get triggered they rise to the surface even if we don’t directly correlate them with past events, and this creates anxiety in the system. These patterns can have an enormous impact on your current day life even though the circumstances that caused them are long gone.
The core idea of Kinesiology and Mind Body Medicine is that our minds and bodies are deeply connected. They constantly influence each other. Our thoughts and beliefs, shaped by past experiences (including traumas, big or small), can significantly impact our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Often, we carry unresolved issues without realizing it, leading to stress and negative patterns in our nervous system. These patterns can cause us to react poorly to current situations. Our bodies communicate this distress through anxiety, emotional imbalances, and even physical problems.
Through kinesiology or mind-body medicine sessions, we can explore the root causes of these issues. By clearing these old emotional blockages and limiting beliefs, we can promote both physical and emotional healing.
Kinesiology takes a unique approach to uncovering the hidden roots of your anxiety. Unlike traditional methods, it goes beyond simply addressing symptoms.
Through a process called muscle monitoring, we use muscle testing as a biofeedback tool to assess your body's response to various stimuli. This can reveal underlying issues that contribute to anxiety, such as chronic stress, nutritional deficiencies that impact your nervous system, or even energetic imbalances within the body.
By identifying these potential triggers, kinesiology can help clear the old beliefs that are tied up with the fear and overwhelm and provides valuable insights to address the root cause of your anxiety, not just the symptoms.
We can also work with your nervous system to help calm the body and mind and bring emotional balance. When you are experiencing anxiety, you are in your sympathetic nervous system, this is the fight or flight mode, or what we call the stress response. A part of balancing your nervous system is bringing in a feeling of safety to the body and creating a more balanced nervous system, relieving the anxiety itself.
With a blend of western and eastern techniques, we help release the pressure, everything from specific acupressure points to brain function processes, nutritional remedies and counselling, to the more metaphysical treatments such as energy work, flower essences, crystals, essential oils, sound, and oracle cards.
A session can incorporate a range of these tools, whether we are working together in person or online. Just as importantly we also discuss what you can do on going to create lifestyle shifts that will support your mental wellbeing. As well as give you tools and techniques that you can use on a regular basis such as breathwork to keep your nervous system calm.
Kinesiology offers a range of potential benefits for those struggling with anxiety:
By addressing underlying imbalances, kinesiology can lead to reduced stress levels, making you feel calmer and more in control.
It can also improve your emotional regulation, allowing you to manage difficult emotions more effectively.
Better sleep as the body becomes less burdened by stress and anxiety.
While you gain a huge benefit from one session, I would recommend a few sessions to clear longer-term emotional patterns. Clients report a significant shift in their anxiety levels and develop coping mechanisms for when they get triggered in the future.
Ultimately, a kinesiology session can lead to a significant increase in your overall well-being, promoting a sense of peace and inner harmony. It's important to note that kinesiology can also be a valuable complement to other holistic anxiety treatments such as Reiki or Naturopathy.
