What is self-abhyanga?

Self-abhyanga is a powerful tool to receive the benefits of Abhyanga on your own. A daily (or regular) practice that moves the lymph, helps flush toxins, improves relationship with oneself and pacifies the 'vata' dosha (air & space elements that leave us feeling ungrounded, stressed and anxious). How often should I receive an Ayurvedic treatment?

For Abhyanga, most clients book in once a month but if we are working on a specific issue - whether it be nervous system support or emotional tending to, every 2 weeks can be prescribed. For Basti treatments, generally clients will book a series of treatments to treat a targeted issue - like back pain or nervous system grounding. These can be booked in consecutive days or weekly.

How is Abhyanga different to other forms of massage?

Abhyanga is different from many other forms of massage because it is not only focused on the physical body, but on creating balance between the body, mind and nervous system. Rooted in the ancient Ayurvedic tradition of India, Abhyanga is a full-body oil massage using warm, herb-infused oils that are carefully selected to nourish the tissues and support your individual constitution. The practice incorporates rhythmic, flowing movements, gentle pressure and attention to marma points- vital energy points throughout the body. Unlike some massage styles that focus primarily on releasing muscular tension, Abhyanga is a deeply nurturing and restorative practice. The intention is to slow the body down, support relaxation, encourage circulation and lymphatic flow, and create a sense of grounding and wellbeing.
