Liv's frequently asked questions

This all depends on what is happening in your life. If you are in crisis (meaning the challenge you are navigating is impacting your everyday to the extent that life doesn't feel manageable) I would recommend weekly. If you are facing a challenge that has been around for a little while but you feel you are managing ok but would like to move through it with support then fortnightly. If you're an existing client and wanting general and ongoing support I recommend monthly or bi-monthly.

Soma is the Greek word for body. The Somatic field looks at the body as a source of wisdom and information to illuminate what is happening within. It holds the belief that the body stores our experiences and speaks through sensations and energy. Somatics encompasses any practices which look at the relationship between the mind and body. The intention of these practices is to support you to find places of connection and disconnection. These practices which often include breath, movement and touch create pathways towards balance, harmony, healing and an overall greater sense of wellbeing.

The word Transpersonal can be translated to ‘beyond the mask’, ‘beyond the personal’ or ‘personal plus’. It is a way of exploring human consciousness, with consideration for an individual's spiritual, ordinary and non-ordinary experiences. Transpersonal Practices are an ever expanding, multicultural and multi-disciplinary space which seeks to support individuals to heal, transform and grow. The History Of Transpersonal Psychology The purpose of Transpersonal Psychology is to explore the ‘plus’ which cannot solely be explained by conventional personal psychology. It “Seeks to foster development, correct developmental arrests, and heal traumas at all levels of development, including transpersonal levels” (Bruce W. Scotton, 2009, p4). Whilst the pioneers for Transpersonal Psychology William James, Freud, C. G. Jung, Abraham Maslow and Roberto Assagioli (to name a few) have made a remarkable imprint, there is an underwhelming representation of female scholars. In a study conducted by Hartelius, Capland and Rardin evaluating gender diversity in transpersonal literature they concluded that “if transpersonal psychology is to stand for human wholeness and transformation, it needs to embody what it teaches; there can be no lasting human transformation without inclusiveness, nor holism without diversity” (Christine Brooks, 2010). The nature of Transpersonal Psychology is ongoing and is an open-ended forum, one which has room for increased inclusion of “a bi-cultural theory founded in First Nations ontology” (Cindy Blackstock, 2011), gender and sexuality.

Over the past decade of my studies I have been drawn to a holistic approach to my own wellbeing and it’s what I share in my practice with others. This can mean something different for everyone. To me Holistic therapy means that I draw from a range of modalities and look at my clients current state of mind, body, emotions, energetics and spirituality. It’s looking at wellness from different perspectives not just through a singular lens. The two paradigms that I draw from in my practice are: Transpersonal Paradigm Mind Body Paradigm These paradigms also fall alongside the Mechanistic Paradigm and the Shamanic Paradigm. Each of these paradigms have a unique relationship, as they are in some way informed by one another or apposed. Based on my own personal history of healing sexual trauma, PTSD and finding ease in my existential tendencies I have found that the combination of the Transpersonal Paradigm and the Mind Body Paradigm have created opportunity for healing, growth and peace. I believe an integrated approach to health and wellbeing where these two paradigms are considered creates immense potential for healing and balance for the individuals who choose to take this path.
