Nuforma Pilates
As one of the owners of Nuforma Pilates, my greatest passion is witnessing people progress, repair, and thrive through their own Pilates journeys. My love for Pilates stems from it being the single most significant tool that helped me regain my life after facing major health challenges.
At the age of 31, over 20 years ago, I was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent major abdominal surgery, including the removal of a third of my colon. The incision required 42 staples, and six months of chemotherapy followed. Despite continuing my corporate role with only a brief ten-day break post-operation, my body and mind were left in poor condition. I lost 10 kilograms, my body strength and muscle tone were nearly non-existent, and I lost most of my hair, along with a significant amount of self-confidence and spirit. My way of coping was to bury myself in work, a strategy that led to a vicious cycle of decline.
A year after my diagnosis, I hit a low point and knew I needed a change. Feeling intimidated by gyms, I discovered Reformer Pilates by chance, which was a novel concept in Australia at the time. I started with one-on-one lessons three times a week for the first six months, allowing me to rebuild both physically and mentally at my own pace. The physical results were astounding within weeks, but the mental health benefits were even more powerful. The mindfulness and breathwork integral to Pilates began to restore my emotional strength and resilience. These sessions became a time for me to focus on myself, valuing and prioritising my well-being, which in turn, boosted my confidence, self-esteem, and energy levels.
Pilates played a crucial role in my physical recovery, helping me regain strength and rebuild muscle tone. Beyond the physical benefits, the practice of mindful breathing and focus provided essential tools for mental well-being and emotional resilience. Pilates helped me reconnect with myself, fostering a sense of inner peace and stability. I learned to value myself more by prioritising my well-being, something I had neglected while being immersed in work. My confidence, self-esteem, and energy levels all began to re-emerge.
Years later, facing new challenges amidst the onset of menopause, I once again turned to Pilates. Its transformative impact inspired me to find a way to share the gift of Pilates with others, leading me on a two-year journey of research and travel to discover the best practices and equipment. This journey led me to Nuforma, which addressed my biggest challenge: how to share the personal benefits of Pilates while making it affordable for everyone. Nuforma ticked all the boxes, offering classes for all levels and all people, available any time of the day.
When opening Nuforma, I wanted to make sure there was more on offer than just exercise. Community is at the heart of what we do, and a space that’s focused on holistic well-being and physical fitness brings the best results for everyone.
Our innovative Nuforma machine, founded in the UK as a result of 20 years of research, marks the biggest leap in Pilates equipment and instruction in over a century. It has a sturdy, oversized bed to accommodate all bodies, incorporated weights, and endless challenging exercise options, offering a personalised and enjoyable experience.
With over 100 programs and a built-in touchscreen, you can pick the workout that suits you best, all with the support of our friendly, qualified in-studio instructors, so you’re never left to your own devices — unless that’s what you want!
